The teachers, physicians , officials and employees of the USTC observed work stoppage from 9 am to 1 pm demanding formulation of service rules for all employees irrespective of rank and status yesterday.
The agitators wore black badge yesterday during the human chain formed in Zakir Hossain road. The stalemate condition of the University of Science and Technology, chittagong could not be overcome on fifth day’s of agitation to press home their demands of the Teachers, Officers and Employees .
The fifth day agitation of the teachers, physicians and the officials of the University of Science and Technology(USTC) passed off peacefully to press home their demand of enacting service rules for the teachers, physicians and the employees. The fifth day agitation begins from 9 am which continued upto 1 pm. All types of official and medicare service except emergency ward was suspended during the agitation hours. During the work stoppage, all classes and examinations of the different faculties remained suspended. The agitation procession paraded the city roads in Foys Lake area and Zakir Hossain Road . After termination of the procession , a rally was held with the campus of the university. In the rally, convenor of the sangram parishad Dr. Kamaluddin, Member Secretary Anowarul Islam, Dr. Prakash, Dr. Mostafa Kamal and Dr. Didarul Alam spoke on the occasion. Sources said USTC is running without the Vice chancellor, pro-VC and Treasurer since long.
A tripartite meeting to end the deadlock was held at the auditorium of the USTC in between university officials, Sangram Parishad and the BMA, Chittagong chapter. The meeting was held at 11 am on Tuesday last. On behalf of the BMA, President of Chittagong chapter of BMA Dr. Mojibul Hoque, joint secretary Faisal Iqbal Chowdhury, Treasurer Dr. Ariful were present in the meeting. Convenor of the Teachers, Physicians, and officials Samanay Parishad Anowarul Islam told that BMA expressed solidarity to the movement of the parishad and will extend their cooperation till fulfillment of their demands, sources said.
A protest rally of the Sangram Parisad was held in the campus yesterday. Among others, Director General of USTC Hospital Brig. General (Retd) Showkat Ali, Prof. Dr. Foyes Ahmed Khan, Dean Dr. Rezwan Kabr, head of surgery Dr. Badiul Alamm Asociate professior Md. Hasan, Medicine depatt head Prof. Md. Mostafa Kamal, Prof. Md. Ali , BMA leader Mahbubul Alam, Dr. Kishore Majumder, BBA faculty Dean Kazi Ahmed Nabi and the member secretary of Teachers, Physician, Officers Employees Parishad Anowarul Islam were present on the occasion. The speakers in the rally blamed the Chairman of the Janaseba Foundation for misappropriation of the fund of the university. While contacted Chairman of the Foundation Iftakarul Islam, he did not responded to the calls.
