The National Legal-Aid Day- 2016 was observed in Kishoreganj District on Thursday.
District Legal-Aid Committee arranged a colourful rally, discussion and Legal-Aid Mela in befitting the manner.
A discussion meeting organised by District Legal-Aid Committee was held at Judge Court premise afternoon.
Senior District and Session Judge Mohammad Mahbubul-ul Islam presided over the meeting. It was address among others by Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas, Special Judge (Women & Children) Awlad Hossain Bhuiyan, Chief Judicial Magistrate Abdus Salam Khan, Police Super Md. Anwar Hossain Khan, ADC (Gen) Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil, District Legal-Aid Officer- cum Senior Assistant Judge Zakir Hossain Khan, Additional Police Super Fazla Rabbi, Bar President Adv Jalal Mohammad Gous, P.P Adv Shah Azizul Haque, Former Bar President Advocate Bhupendra Bowmic Dulon, Anti Corruption Commission P.P Advocate Abdur Rahman, Mohila Parished President Sultana Razia and The Daily Kishoeganj Times Editor Adv A.B.M Lutfur Rashid Rana.

BSS from Rajshahi reports: Speakers at a post-rally discussion in Rajshahi yesterday said there should be adequate measures of making the poor and underprivileged communities including ethnic minority people aware about the existing cost-free legal aid services so that they could derive total benefits of the services.
They mentioned that besides the government level National Legal Aid services, various development organizations are implementing need-based projects in order to provide legal aid services to the poor and distressed litigants including the ethnic minorities free of cost.
Light House Consortium and Improved Justice and Legal Aid Services (IJLAS) Project jointly organised the discussion at Paba Upazila Complex conference hall to mark the fourth National Legal Aid Day-2016. Community Legal Services supported the programme with financial support from UKaid.
“Access to get justice of the Poor and Distressed People is the commitment of Present Government” was the main theme of the day.
Upazila Chairman Ashraful Haque Tota and Vice-Chairman Khairunnessa Begum addressed the discussion as chief and special guest respectively with Assistant Commissioner (Land) Alamgir Kabir in the chair.
Social Service Officer Abu Taher, IJLAS Project Team Leader Nicholus Biswash and Regional Manager of UCEP Gopal Chandra Mazumder also spoke.
The speakers said concerted management of common resources can contribute significantly in uplifting the livelihood of extreme poor people including ethnic minorities in the region including the Barind Tract.
They identified major causes of conflict over using common resources and suggested best practices for conflict management. They also came out with number of recommendations that may be helpful to establish a congenial management system for use of common resources.
