Prime Minister’s Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury called for projecting images of women and children positively to ensure their rights in the society.
“Negative attitude towards women is severe in our society . . .males should come forward to establish women’s dignity and rights . . they have to come out from traditional manner,” he said this on Thursday while speaking in the inaugural function of a workshop on “Children and Women Development” at Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) seminar room in the city.
PIB Director General Mohammad Shah Alamgir chaired the function while PIB Director Mohammad Jahangir Hossain delivered the welcome address.
Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury said how much a society or nation is civilized it depends on how women and children enjoy their rights in that society.
Referring to a recent survey on top 10 highly circulated newspapers, Shah Alamgir said in print media outlets the amount of coverage centering the women accounts for a mere five percent while it is only two percent for children.
Most of the stories dealt with negative portrayals of women, he said urging the media to cover positive and development reports on women and children.
