Development activists at a meeting urged media people to play a strong role in preventing internet and online-based sexual harassment against children.
They observed that the role of mass-media is very important towards freeing the children from all sorts of violence and repression through halting cybercrime.
They said this at a meeting held in Rajshahi on Thursday. The speakers said that the media both print and electronics has already established a number of instances towards supplementing efforts of law enforcers to bring many persons who were involved in internet and online-based crimes against children to book through objective reporting.
They came up with the observation while addressing a media mobilization meeting titled “Role of Mass-media towards preventing children repression through internet” at conference hall of Association for Community Development (ACD), a rights-based non-government organization.
ACD organized the meeting aimed at sensitizing the media personnel on objective reporting related to culminating the violence and repression against children through maintaining social distancing and other health directives amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Chaired by ACD Executive Director Salima Sarwar, the meeting was addressed, among others, by its Programme Director Sharmin Subrina, Programme Manager Mostafa Kamal and Media Manager Amzad Hossain Shimul as focal persons.
ACD Programme Officer Anwar Hossain illustrated various demerits of child marriage in his keynote presentations putting forward a set of recommendations on how to free the society from child marriage.
The speakers viewed that building social awareness among the community people, especially parents and teachers, has become an urgent need for prevention of violence and repression against children.
The government alone or any single organisation is not capable of freeing the children from violence and repression, so community participation is very important in this regard.
