Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju on Thursday urged all the stakeholders of the upcoming climate change conference to play a pivotal role for attaining maximum benefit on behalf of the countries like Bangladesh.
“Climate change is not a problem of north-south or regional. So, all the stakeholders would have to fix a strategy for achieving maximum benefit on behalf of Bangladesh from the upcoming ‘Conference of the Parties’ or COP-22 to be held on November 7-18 in Morocco,” said the minister as the chief guest while attending a seminar at CIRDAP auditorium here.
Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), Bangladesh Poribesh Sangbadik Forum, Equity and Justice Working Group-Bangladesh, Center for Sustainable Rural Livelihood (CSRL) and Oxfam jointly organized the seminar.
Chaired by Dr Hasan Mahmud, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment and Forest Ministry, the seminar was also addressed, among others, by Ziaul Haq, Director of the Department of Environment, Dr Nilufer Banu, Executive Director of Bangladesh Development Council, Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, General Secretary of the National Press Club and Chairman of Bangladesh Poribesh Sangbadik Forum and Professor Sharmin Nilormy from the economics department of the Jahangirnagar University.
“We have to continue our effort for holding maximum negotiation as the
victim country like Bangladesh could reap ultimate benefit from the
conference,” said the minister.
He added that all the stakeholders including government, civil society
and other non-government organizations would play their role from their
respective position for resolving the climate change problems.
