Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque urged all to plant trees as Bangladesh is now at risk of global warming and climate change.
“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a nature lover, if you want to build Sonar Bangla as dreamt by him, you have to plant more trees. Besides, Bangladesh is now at risk of global warming and climate change. Therefore, in order to build Bangabandhu’s Sonar Bangla, more trees have to be planted in the country,” he said.
The minister made the remarks on Wednesday after planting trees on Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban premises in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area as part of a nationwide 1 crore tree planting programme announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation.
He said Bangabandhu had witnessed the misery of all the people including the farmers of Bengal.
The peasants of Bengal were miserable, exploited and deprived, he said, adding that that is why Bangabandhu had thought of their welfare all his life.
He (Bangabandhu) dreamed of building a Sonar Bangla to improve the living standards of the people of Bengal, Razzaque added.
