Mayor of Chittagong A J M Nasir Uddin today urged the people of all walks of life to give Value Added Tax (VAT) spontaneously for expediting the overall development.”Bangladesh is progressing rapidly, there is big contribution of the country’s businessmen in this regard,” he added.
The city Mayor was addressing as chief guest a seminar on ‘Importance of VAT to implement Vision 2021 and Vision 2041’ held at Bangabandhu Conference Hall of World Trade Center in the city. Terming VAT as a major income source for the government, Nasir called upon all to give VAT for economic emancipation of the country and build prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’, as cherished by Bangabandhu, by implementing Vision 2021 and Vision 2041.He also called for reducing the taxpayers’ hassles and boosting tax collections by creating awareness among people.
Speaking on the occasion, the businessmen suggested enhancing VAT gradually, not increasing in a big way.
Sayed Golam Kibria, Commissioner of Custom Exercise and VAT, presided over the function while National Board of Revenue Member Abu Faisal Mohammad Shahriar Mollah, Tax Appellate Commissioner Mahbub Hossain, President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mahbubul Alam and President of Chittagong Woman Chamber of Commerce and Industries Kamrun Malek, among others, addressed on the occasion.
