Call to obey traffic rules for avoiding accidents

Sincere driving, obeying vehicular traffic rules, safer use of roads and proper awareness of the professional drivers can reduce road accidents to save thousands of lives annually in the country.
The opinions came at a training workshop styled ‘Vehicular Act and Basic Traffic Rules’, first of its kind in the country, held yesterday at Police Lines Drill Shed in the sub-Himalayan district town of Panchagarh. Panchagarh District Police with District Motor Owners’ Association (DMOA) and District Motor Workers’ Association (DMWA) organised the workshop participated by 200 motor workers, drivers and vehicle owners of the district.
Superintendent of Police of Panchagarh Gias Uddin Ahmed attended the workshop as the chief guest with Additional Superintendent of Police Deen Mohammad in the chair.
Joint Secretary of Panchagarh DMOA Shafikul Alam, President of DMWA Abdul Mazid, Assistant Superintendents of Police Rokanuzzaman and Kafil Uddin and Officer-in-Charge of Panchagarh Sadar Thana Mominul Islam addressed as special guests. The speakers said inefficiency of some drivers, faulty vehicles without fitness, violation of Vehicular Act and Traffic Rules, overlooking signals, using mobile phones while driving, drying of crops on roads, illegal occupation of roads, lack of awareness among pedestrians and overtaking are the major reasons behind road accidents.
They said hundreds of people, including women and children, have been dying from road accidents with thousands of the others injured and many of them becoming physically handicapped annually in the country.
