Call to modernise photojournalism

Speakers at a discussion observed that pictures speak louder than words in this digitised age, adding that photojournalism should be more modernised and efficient.
They mentioned that emphasis should be given on more promotion of modern technology in photojournalism so that it can work for the communities effectively.
They were addressing the inaugural session of a two-day training workshop titled “Digital Technology in Photojournalism” held at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) of Rajshahi University on Thursday.
MCJ and Winrock International jointly organized the workshop in association with Climate Resilient Ecosystem and Livelihood Project.
Dean of Social Science Faculty Prof Nilufar Sultana addressed the inaugural session as the chief guest with department chairman Dr Prodip Kumar Panday in the chair. Associate Profs Dr Mustaque Ahmed, Mosihur Rahman and Shatil Siraj, Communication Manager of Winrock International Obaidullah Fattah Tanveer and Outreach Specialist Zinat Ara Afroj also spoke.
The Chief Guest said pictures are very effective in disseminating messages to anywhere easily. She added that digital photography is nothing new today, but it brings changes every day and a photographer should be oriented with these changes and new demands of the age.
A total of 25 post graduation level students of the department are taking part in the course.
