Feni: Nagorik Samaj (Citizens Council) has demanded Feni as a division considering its immense contribution to the country’s development.
Convener of the Feni Nagorik Samaj, Mohammad Golam Nabi, explained the details in a press briefing in a district restaurant on Saturday morning at 11 am.
He said, Feni has topped the list of earning foreign currency for the country and is an important place from the geographical, cultural, economical, and historical point of view. “We have been demanding Feni as a division since 1994 to secure the status of division by way of organizing press conference, view-exchange meeting, human chains and peaceful campaigns.”
Feni got the grade of district in 1984, but still there are no district Land, ACC, T & T, Narcotics and Postal offices here.
In reply to a question, Golam Nabi said, “We cannot remain under the jurisdiction of Comilla division because of difference in life style, and culture and approach. We think that a new division comprising Feni, Noakhali and Luxmipur is possible with its headquarters at Feni since the rail and the road communications between Chittagong Port and the rest of the country pass through this town.
In the press briefing, among others, were present Member-Secretary Enamul Huq, Freedom Fighter Abul Khayer and Mohammad Khokan.
