Call to make edn as thrust sector for nat’l interest

Speakers at a view-sharing meeting yesterday unequivocally called for making the country’s education and the primary education in particular as the thrust sector for the sake of bringing dynamism in all the development sectors.
Terming the education as power house they said cherished development of the nation is not possible by keeping the sector neglected or lagging behind.
Budgetary allocation needs to be enhanced for the sector for its substantial and sustainable development.
Shaw-Unnayan and Campaign for Mass Education (CAMPE) jointly organised the discussion styled “Quality Education for All: Good Governance and Decentralization” held at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Around 60 persons comprising academics, members of school managing committee, students and other stakeholders attended the meeting. During his keynote presentation Prof Dr Abu Zayed from North South
University gave an overview of the country’s education sector alongside putting forward a set of recommendations on how to make the education qualitative and quantitative.
Former Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof Dr Sayeedur Rahman Khan addressed the discussion as chief guest while Deputy Principal Information Officer Bidhan Chandra Karmaker, District Education Officer Rejaul Islam and District Primary Education Officer Abul Kashem spoke as special guests with Prof Nurul Amin, former Chairman of Rajshahi Education Board, , in the chair.
Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, President of Shaw Unnayan Mustafizur Rahman Khan, Academics Prof Nurul Alam, Dr Subhra Chowdhury, Dr Mourtoza Khaled and Dr Sazzad Bakul and Regional Manager of Prip Trust Saiduzzaman Sipon spoke on the occasion as panel discussants.
Taking part in the discussion, many other participants put forward a set of recommendations and stressed the need for political commitment to make the country’s education as thrust sector.
