Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday asked all concerned of his ministry to give priority to keep up quality in repairing roads, check plying of overloaded vehicles as well as to maintain discipline of vehicles to protect roads and highways.
The minister gave the directives to the newly appointed secretary and other high officials at the meeting room of his ministry here.
At the function, Quader welcomed new Secretary Md Nazrul Islam and gave farewell to outgoing secretary of the ministry M A N Siddique, said an official handout.
Quader, also the Awami League General Secretary, said the number of vehicles on the roads and highways is increasing day by day. “We will have to control the overloaded vehicles by implementing Excel Load Control Policy,” he said.
Chief Engineer of Roads of Highways Department Ibne Alam Hasan, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority Chairman Md Mashiar Rahman, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation Chairman Farid Ahmed Bhuyian and Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority Executive Director Syed Ahmmad, were present at the function, among others.
