Civil Society members called for keeping a provision in the national budget for current fiscal for allocating money from the child budget for combating child trafficking.
They also called for creating special funds as per the direction of Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression Act (2012).
The Act stipulated for creating the funds aimed at combating the crime as well as providing protection to children.
They came up with the remarks while addressing a workshop aimed at determining a strategy for prevention of child trafficking at YWCA Centre at Mohammadpur in the capital today (Monday).
In order to ensure the child rights, they called for taking measures such as executing the Act, child protection, effective utilization of mass media, sensitizing law enforcing agencies and creating awareness among people.
Terming girl and disabled children and children of aboriginal and marginal families as more vulnerable to trafficking, they stressed on giving proper attention to them.
Chaired by AKM Masud Ali, executive director of INCIDIN Bangladesh and Chair of Action against Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation of Children (ATSEC), Firozul Islam, senior manager of Save the Children, Roksana Sultana, executive director of Breaking the Silence, Advocate Rafiqul Islam Khan, PCTSCN Coordinator (INCIDIN Bangladesh), spoke at the function.
Prevention of Child Trafficking through Strengthening Community and Networking (PCTSCN) consortium, ATSEC and NSCG jointly organized the event. Representatives from different NGOs and students attended it.
