Speakers at a discussion here Monday unequivocally called for intensifying the existing cooperative movement for substantial and sustainable eradication of rural poverty.
They viewed scores of cooperatives were created in the rural areas with intervention of Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) adding there should be effective measures of keeping all the cooperatives functional for improving the living and livelihood condition of the rural masses.
They were addressing the regional conference titled “Intensification of UCCA and Primary Cooperatives and Loan Programmes under BRDB” held at the conference hall of Regional Public Administration Training Center. BRDB district office organized the event.
President of Bangladesh National Rural Development Cooperatives Federation Israfil Hossain, MP, addressed the conference as chief guest with Rafiul Haque, Deputy Director of BRDB, in the chair. Among others, Director (Training) Ratna Banik also spoke as special guest.
More than 60 persons including Deputy Directors, Upazila Rural Development Officers and President and Inspectors from Rajshahi, Naogaon, Natore and Chapainwabgonj attended the conference.
Chief Guest Israfil Hossain said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed to elevate the socio-economic condition of the rural population.
