Call to increase export to minimise import dependence

President of Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry and KDS Group Chairman Md. Khalilur Rahman said, the volume of exports in traditional and non-traditional items must be increased aimed at minimizing the dependency of the imports and trade imbalance with foreign countries.
 He disclosed it while addressing the pressmen at their office premises recently . He said for the first time of the country, CMCCI is going to organize a n exclusive Trade fair in city which is something different from other fairs so far arranged in the port city earlier. He said CMCCI is going to arranged a month-long Bangladesh International Trade and Export Fair-2014 (BITEF-2014) which will begin from December 3 in the port city.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed is expected to attend the inaugural function as chief guest. Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CMCCI) President and Chairman of KDS group Khalilur Rahaman disclosed at CMCCI auditorium recently.
The mega trade event, 3rd largest International Trade Fair in the country would be held at Halishahor Abhani field in the city under the auspices of CMCCI.
Mela Committee Chairman Anisuzzaman Bhuiyan said over 171 stalls including 10 mega pavilion, 26 medium and standard pavilions, five Bank booths, 124 stalls booths and 10 restaurants and others booths were set up till to date at the fair venue covering nearly two lakh square feet of land areas of Halishahor Abhani field here.
The CMCCI authority is organizing the fair for the first time this year and it got a wide range of publicity by the Bangladesh foreign missions abroad, foreign missions in Bangladesh and different trade bodies and world famous trade based web sites.
CMCCI officials said stringent security measures, one stop banking service, fire service center and emergency medical center will also be set up inside the fair for the convenient of the participants and visitors.
On the other hand, a number of high profile trade and investment delegations including Belgium are scheduled to visit the fair for exploring trade and investment prospects, the sources added. The fair will be opened for visitors from 10 am to 10 pm everyday.
