State Minster for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira proposed including life, work and contributions of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib in textbooks to encourage the next generation to follow her ideals.
She said this on Wednesday while addressing as the chief guest a commemorative programme styled “The spirit of glorious Bangamata, the inspiration of indomitable Bangladesh” in London virtually joining it from Dhaka.
Bangladesh High Commission to London arranged it on the occasion of the 92nd birth anniversary Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said a press release of the high commission received in Dhaka.
Indira said Bangamata was not only actively involved with all democratic movements for achieving autonomy for Bangalee nation but also she acted as guide for Bangabandhu in every political aspect, reports BSS.
She said Bangamata made the basement of socioeconomic status of womenfolk stronger taking up special initiatives including engaging them with small and cottage industries and imparting training to them.
Following the footprints of Bangamata, her daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina played an unparallel role to become a role model of women empowerment in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Saida Muna Tasneem moderated the programme.
One of the key campaigners in favour of Liberation War in the UK Sultan Mahmud Sharif, poet and journalist Shamim Azad, British Bangladeshi Community’s leader Khaleda Koreshi, UK’s Central Family Court’s first Bangladeshi-born British senior judge Khatun Sapnara, first British Bangladeshi Queen’s Counsel (QC) Barrister Sultana Tafadar and councillor Shantu Ferdous took part in a panel discussion titled ‘Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib: A Fearless Companion in Crisis and Struggle’.
The Bangladesh High Commissioner announced of introducing ‘Bangamata Women Empowerment Award’ from this year on the occasion of the 92nd birth anniversary of Bangamata.
At the outset of the programme, special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of all martyrs of August 15, 1975 including Bangabandhu and Bangamata.
Later, wreaths were placed at the portrait of Bangamata to pay homage to her. A documentary on her life and works was also screened on the occasion. Recital artiste Munira Parveen recited a poem dedicating it to Bangamata.
