Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has called for grooming up autistic children with technical know-how to ensure their participation in the development process of the country.
“If the children with autism are given opportunities like normal ones, they will make significant contribution to the society,” he told a function at International Mother Language Institute here on Sunday.
The function was held on the occasion of the World Autism Awareness Day, an official release said.
Additional Secretary of the Education Ministry AS Mahmud, Director of the Autistic Academy Establishment Project Salma Begum, medical professionals and representatives of different non-government organizations, among others, addressed the function with Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Prof Fahima Khatun in the chair.
Nahid said, “An academy building for autistic children will be constructed in city’s Purbachal area. The academy project is already launching awareness programmes including workshop and trainings.”
