Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi on Saturday urged all to be united against terrorism and fundamentalism as Bangladesh believes in non-communalism and liberal democracy.
“The recent attacks on the minority community people are the activities of internal terrorism. The root of such internal terrorism should be identified from the depth to eliminate the menace from the society,” he told a seminar on Dhaka University campus.
Political Science Association organized the seminar on “Militancy and Terrorism in Bangladesh” at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university.
Rizvi hoped terrorism would be root-out from the society soon with the collective efforts of the countrymen.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique addressed the function as special guest while former Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nation (UN) Professor Emeritus Dr Abdul Momen and Information Commissioner Professor Dr Khurshida Begum Sayeed addressed the seminar as guests of honour.
Referring the Pakistan’s recent demand of compensation from Bangladesh, Professor Arefin Siddique questioned, “Who will compensate the 30 lac martyrs in 1971?”
“Pakistanis looted our bank and insurances before we achieved freedom on December in 1971.
Money of government offices and state-run airways agency was also looted,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor demanded of bringing back those moneys to Bangladesh, otherwise there is logical ground to keep diplomatic relations with Pakistan.
Prof Arefin said Dhaka University authority has already cut off all ties with Pakistani universities as Pakistan made falsehood over the genocide in Bangladesh and the university will keep the relations snapped until Pakistan will apologize unconditionally.
Political Science Association President Professor Md Gyasuddin Molla presided over the seminar while General Secretary Dr Syed Ashrafur Rahman delivered welcome speech.
A total of three articles were presented at the seminar on the topic.
