Speakers here have underscored on transparent and accountable public procurement for the best uses of public money and proper implementation of the uplift programmes.
They added to this end, wide-ranging promotion of electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) is very important. The Government of Bangladesh has established a priority to modernise Bangladesh and achieve a shared vision for a Digital Bangladesh by 2021.
As part of its Digital Bangladesh initiative, Bangladesh considers e- Governance to be a vital ingredient in achieving its goal. The observations came at the inaugural session of a three-daylong “Workshop on Procurement” here on Wednesday.
Rajshahi Mohila Polytechnic Institute (RMPI) organized the workshop at its conference hall in association with Skill and Training Enhancement Project (STEP).
Divisional Director of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Ataul Gani and Executive Engineer of Department of Education Engineering Mijanur Rahman addressed the workshop as chief and special guests respectively with RMPI Principal Omor Faruque in the chair.
In his welcome speech, Siddique Hossain, Coordinator of the workshop, highlighted the aspects of ensuring transparency and accountability in public procurement besides operating the financial activities following the existing rules and regulations properly.
The speakers stated that more than Taka 30,000 crore is spent for the public procurement purposes every year so there is no alternative to make the procurement process transparent.
They mentioned that the present government has taken steps to make the tender and procurement process computerized for preventing corruption and different other anomalies in this regard.
The digital system in procurement of goods, works and services with public funds has also widened opportunities in doing business with government as it has removed all kinds of hassles, they added.
Some 26 teachers and others concerned from five STEP-grant received polytechnic institutes took part in the workshop.
