Call to ensure equal rights to girl child

Speakers unequivocally called for ensuring equal rights to the girl child to make them equally worthy citizens. They also called upon all concerned for ensuring education, health care, equal rights, safety and security of every girl child, stopping child marriage and all sorts of violence against them.
District administration, Department of Women Affairs and Human Resource Training Center of Rajshahi jointly organised the human chain programme at Shaheb Bazar Zero point in the city in observance of National Day of the Daughters Child and Child Marriage Prevention-2016.
Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ataul Gani addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with District Women Affairs Officer Shahnaj Begum in the chair.
Former state minister Prof Zinatunnessa Talukder, social worker Shahin Akter Rainy, local unit chairman of Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Morjina Parveen and Brac district representative Jahedul Islam also spoke. DC Kazi Ashraf Uddin said, children particularly the girls living in the slums should not be allowed to beg on the streets.
Ensuring safety and security for girls through combating all sorts of violence especially sexual harassment against them is very important for the girls as worthy citizens.
Terming the child marriage as the major violence and gross violation of human rights, he said there is no alternative to prevent the child marriages.
