Participatory Development Action Program (PDAP) organized a Local to local Dialogue on Transparency & accountability issue ” To ensure new born babies’ birth registration” was held at Moyouree Community Centre, Mirpur, in the city on Wednesday.
A key-note speech was presented by Moderator Ms. Quazi Baby, Executive Director of PDAP. She said that all children of all religions need to take birth registration within 45 days. This is written in our birth and death certificate policy, Article 29, passed in 2004. Besides, in UN Child rights policy, Article 7, it is written that ” a new born baby need to get birth registration, when she/he will come in this world. It is their rights to get parent’s name, address and who will look after them. 100 participants mainly grassroots women leaders, local teachers, representative from different NGOs, CBOs and adolescents attended in the dialogue session.
The grassroots women said that to ensure birth registration for all children is Human rights. But we have to suffer a lot to get this birth certificate for our children. After submission the birth registration filled out format, we did not get the certificate within mentioned time.
The teachers said that during admission in the schools, students are not able to provide their birth certificate in time. Due to harassment of local city corporation, some guardians have been failed to give certificate properly.
In this Dialogue session Chief Guest was Mahbubul Islam, Chief Executive Officer, Zone-2, North City Corporation. Special guest was Major General (Rtrd) Jeebon Kanai Das, Executive Director, Sir William Beveridge Foundation. The Dialogue session was presided by Rotarian Ms. Mahjabeen Masood, Executive member of PDAP.
The special guest said that Child birth registration is very important issue. One time birth registration is enough for all children. We should careful about this. Then we will be able to find out transparency and accountability in this sector.
Mhbubul Islam said, PDP has received a permission letter from Health department of Local Government Department. This permission letter from Health Ministry regarding birth registration will be helpful for all of you. He also mentioned that “if necessary or any problem you have faced, then you can contact with me. I will help you”.
