Call to encourage global youth leadership for dev

The three-day sixth Bangladesh Model United Nation (BANMUN), 2014 conference concluded here recently with promises of sustainable development through encouraging global youth leadership.
Oxford International School (OIS), a leading English medium school in the city, hosted the conference at its Auditorium from June 24-26, said a press release here on Sunday.
BANMUN 2014 is a three-day long conference organized by the United Nations Youth and Students Association Bangladesh (UNYSAB) with over 300 students from 36 schools and colleges in Bangladesh participating as delegates under 10 committees.
BANMUN is an academic simulation of the General Assembly of United Nations where students participate to raise awareness about and discuss domestic and global socio-economic issues to broaden their experiences.
The theme of this year’s BANMUN 2014 was ‘Youth for Development’. Some 36 students have been selected to participate from Oxford International School at this prestigious event. The Inauguration Ceremony for BANMUN 2014 was held at 10 am on June 22, 2014 and started off with a plenary session and three committee sessions.
Principal and Head of the school, Professor Shahidul Alam Monju opened the conference on the school premises on June 22 when Vice-Chancellor of ASA University Dr Dalem Chandra Barman, Director General of UN and Human Rights of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Syeda Muna Tasneem, UN Resident Coordinator Nean Walker and Officer-in-Charge of UN Information Centre Md Moniruzzaman were present on the occasion.
Addressing the opening session, Professor Shahidul Alam said that Oxford International School is honored and excited to be able to host and participate in this prestigious event. He said this conference would help encourage global young leadership to take a vow for ensuring sustainable development.
He said this year’s theme ‘Youth for Development’ is appreciative as it engages youths with the national and global developmental issues.
Syeda Tasnim Muna said the event would help provide the youth a platform for discussion major issues currently facing the world.
The programmes were concluded on Thursday with a Gala closing ceremony where the students of Oxford International School and other participants took part in various cultural events.
In the closing function, the participants and the organizers were conferred awards, the release added.
