A discussion meeting and an Iftar Mahfil of the greater Khulna, Barisal and Faridpur Unnayan Parishad in Dhaka was held at Sundarban Hotel in the city on Monday.
Speakers at the discussion urged the government to take effective measures to build Khulna, Barisal and Faridpur as model cities through creating proper labour market, urbanization as well as locally developed and sustainable economy.
They also demanded of the government to declare Faridpur and Jessore towns as city corporations.
With president of the organization Md Sheikh Sadi in the chair, the meeting was addressed by former minister Syed Didar Bakht, Nahim Razzak MP, Noni Gopal Mondal, a former MP, Mehedi Ahmed Rumi, chairman of Bangladesh Human Rights Foundation and former additional IGP Dr Abdur Rahim Khan, P P M, freedom fighter and Awami League leader Syed Mahbub Ali Babul, BNP central leader Advocate Jamal Sharif Hiru, president of Khulna divisional lawyers Association Advocate Sheikh Atiar Rahman, president greater Faridpur Samity Sharif M Afzal Hossain, president of greater Khulna Samity Sheikh Shafi Ahmed, one of the organizers of grater Barisal Dr M A Awal and president of Khulna Divisional Samity Engineer M A Quddus.
The discussion was also addressed by Lt Col (Rtd) Alauddin Gazi, Major (Rtd) A B M Nurul Alam, Major Dr Sheikh Habibur Rahman, Deputy Attorney General Advocate Najibur Rahman, chairperson of Momtaj Faroque Foundation Begum Momtaj Faroque, general secretary of Khulna Divisional Samity B M Selim Reza, vice president of the organization Harun-Ar-Rashid, among others.
