National Mourning Day observed: Call to build ‘Sonar Bangla’, bring back convicted killers of Bangabandhu

National Mourning Day and 40th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is being observed through various programmes in different districts with due solemnity. Our Correspondents and agencies report:
Rajshahi Correspondent says: The National Mourning Day and 40th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in Rajshahi with due solemnity.
The day is observed with a fresh vow to materialize the dreams of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build a ‘Sonar Bangla’ and bring back the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu to execute verdict of the murder case.
Various government and non-government organizations, political parties, socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions, including Rajshahi University and RUET, have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.
The day’s programms began with hoisting of national flags and black flags, placing of wreaths at the portraits of Bangabandhu and four national leaders, offering special prayers and bringing out mourning processions.
The district administration organized a discussion meeting and doa mahfil at the Shilpakala Academy Auditorium in observance of the day. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury in the chair.
Abdul Wadud Dara, MP, commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed, DIG of police of Rajshahi Range Iqbal Bahar, RMP Commissioner Md Shamsuddin and SP of Rajshahi Nisharul Arif spoke as special guests.
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj adds: Rich tributes were paid to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Father of the Nation here yesterday in observance of the National Mourning Day.
Kishoreganj District administration, the ruling Awami League, JSD, Gono Forum, NAP, Gonatantree Party, different Socio-cultural and professional bodies were chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day. The programmes of the day include lowering of the National at half mast and hoisting of black flags at Government, semi-government, private building, shops, Awami League office and its alliance 14- party others office. Offering of Fatema, munajat and Milad Mahfil there.
A discussion meeting was arranged by District Administration held at Local Art-Council Hall on Saturday. Dilara Begum Asma M.P attended as chief guest while Deputy Commissioner G.S.M Zafar Ullah presided over.
It was addressed among others by Police Super Md. Anowar Hossain Khan (Special Guest), Zila Parished Administrator Advocate Md. Zillur Rahman, Zila Parished C.E.O Md. Bagerhat Correspondent reports: People from all walks of life of Bagerhat district town and its all the nine upazilas paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Shaikh Mujibor Rahman yesterday in observance of the National Mourning Day as else where of the country commemorating his 40th martyrdom anniversary.
On this dreadful night of August 15, 1975, some disgruntled and over ambitious army officers assassinated Bangabandhu and most of the members of his family at his 32, Dhanmandi residence in the capital city of Dhaka.
Earlier, Bagerhat district administration, local units of the ruling Awami League, its front organizations, different socio-cultural, political and professional bodies chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the National Mourning Day with due respect and solemnity.
BSS from Gaibandha reports: Discussion, Doa Mahfil on the National Mourning Day-15 and the 40th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are being held in the district for few days last.
On the occasion of the National Mourning Day, a discussion was held on the premises of Badiakhali High School under Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon.
Bangladesh Awami League, Badiakhali union unit, arranged the meeting where whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker M Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed as the chief guest.
With president of union Awami League M Shahidul Islam in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by joint secretary of district Awami League freedom fighter Mojammel Haque Mondal, organising secretary Rezaul Karim Reza, cultural affairs secretary Mridul Mostafi Jhantu and convener of Bangladesh Chhatra League, district unit Abdul Latif.
Gini said at the fateful night of August 15 in 1975, a group of disgruntled army officers brutally killed Bangabandhu, his wife Fazilatunnesa, sons Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russel and daughters in law Sultana Kamal and Rosy Kamal and his some close relatives.
The memory of Bangabandhu is alive not only in the month of August, but also in every moment in our life as Bangabandhu is the best son of the soil for thousands of years and the greatest Bengalee of all times, the whip added.
Bangabandhu gave us our own nation, state and the pride of self identity, but he was killed when he had devoted himself to the arduous task of building a golden Bangla reconstructing the war ravaged independent country and unifying the whole nation, she also said.
BSS from Khulna says: The two-day programme to observe National Mourning Day and 40th anniversary of martydom of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the city and district began yesterday.
To mark the day, Khulna district administration has chalked out a two-day long programme in a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on August 6.
Lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency Mizanur Rahman Mizan was present as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Mostofa Kamal in the chair.
Representatives from various government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, socio-cultural and voluntary organisations and educational institutions were present.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) has chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the National Mourning Day-2015 and 40th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman .
The programmes include hoisting of the national flag at half-mast at the City Bhaban soon after sunrise, placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Central Shaheed Minar and observance of one-minute silence at 9-30 am tomorrow.
