State Minister for Fisheries and Animal Resources Narayan Chandra Chanda, MP, has asked the field level officials, concerned and other dairy and poultry farmers to boost the livestock sector for ensuring food security.
He observed that the contribution of the livestock sector is immense in terms of meeting up the protein deficiency and socio-economic development and said there is no alternative to elevate the sector.
He made these observations while addressing the “2nd Livestock Award Presentation and Annual Conference and Livestock-Poultry Fair-2015” held at the Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium in Rajshahi University (RU) as the chief guest yesterday.
Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS) organized the event with the main thrust of devising ways and means on how to expedite the promotional activities of the promising sector.
RU Pro-VC Prof Dr Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Director General of Directorate of Animal Resources Ajoy Kumar Roy, Executive Director of ACI Agri Business Limited Dr FH Ansary and Prof Syed Shah Alam from Kebangsan University in Malaysia also spoke.
BLS President Prof Dr Jalaluddin Sarder presided over the discussion.
Former Vice-chancellor of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Science University Prof Mahfuzul Bari presented a keynote paper titled “Environment Protection and Sustainable Development”.
The state Minister said substantial and sustainable expansion of animal resource farming is very important for removing the existing protein deficiency along with cutting the poverty rate in the region.
The unemployment problem in the rural areas could be reduced to a greater extent through making the dairy farming popular at the grassroots level.
Moreover, the dairy sector, having huge prospects, can bring about a revolutionary change in the socioeconomic condition of the poor by alleviating poverty.
