Call for proper nurturing of ‘Bhaoyaiya’ songs

Discussants at a function in Rangpur on Saturday night stressed properly preserving, flourishing and nurturing of ‘Bhaoyaiya’ and other folk songs for reviving the past glory of our rich cultural heritage and social values. They put importance on enriching Bengali culture through strengthening cultural movement, frequently arranging cultural events and popularising our own culture to build a more human and peaceful society. The discussants came up with the observations while addressing the concluding function of the three-day Abbasuddin International Bhaoyaiya Festival-2018 held on the Public Library ground here. The festival observance committee organised the event under patronization of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs with assistance of the ‘Bhaoyaiya Sangsad Dhaka’. Popular Bhaoyaiya artistes of Dhaka and nine northern districts of Bangladesh, Kolkata, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and Koochbehar districts of West Bengal and Assam in India rendered popular Bhaoyaiya songs and group performances in the festival. Earlier, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the Abbasuddin International Bhaoyaiya Festival at the same venue on Thursday night as the chief guest. Member of the Parliament Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia attended the concluding function as the chief guest with convener of the festival observance committee Siraj Uddin in the chair. Zila Parisahd Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom, president of Rangpur Chamber Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu and Joint Convener of the festival observance committee Biplob Prashad, among others, addressed.
