Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of district Shilpakala Academy Bhaban at Band Road area in the city.
Dr. Gazi Md. Saifuzzaman, Deputy Commissioner, Barisal presided over the ceremony .
It was addressed among others by Talukdar Md. Yunus, Jebunnesa Afroj, AL lawmakers, Liakat Ali Lucky, Director General of Silpakala Academy, Md. Gaus, Divisional Commissioner Barisal. The cultural minister at afternoon also inaugurated the reconstructed modernised studio-theatre at Shabdaboli Group Theatre premises in the city.
The cultural minister in his lectures on these occasions called people to utilise the facilities given through Shilpakala Academy for combating obscene culture through expanding healthy cultural activities in grass root level.
As a cultural activist, an entertainer, actor, a politician, I believe that obscene, communal culture only could be combated by expanding healthy pro-people cultural activities to grass root level, the minister told.
The 4-storied district Shilpakala Academy would the constructed on 3838 square meter space with 462-seat auditorium with modern lighting and stage, practice of cultural activities and rehearsal room, offices at the cost of Tk 12 core within next two-year.
On other hand works of first phase of modernised studio theatre was completed at the cost of Tk. 10 lakhs funded by the cultural ministry.
