The Intenational Women’s Day was observed in Kishoreganj on Thursday.
Many organisations chalked out various programme, including railes, discussion, seminar and cultural events focusing on equal rights for women to mark the day.
Kishoreganj District Administration and Women Affairs Department arranged a colourfull rally, discussion and cultural function marking the Day.
A discussion meeting on Time is now: Rural & Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives held at Local Biam Labratories premises Thursday morning.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Morshed Chowdhury attended as Chief Guest while DWAO Md. Mamunur Rashid in the chair.
It was addressed among others by ADC (Gen) Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil, Sonak President Freedom Fighter Professor M.A Goni, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, District Press Club President Mustafa Kamal, Sonak Formar President Saiful Hoque Mollah Dulu, Mohila Somity President Maya Bhowmik, its former President Sultana Rajia, Jatiya Mohila Sangtha District Chairman Khaleda Fency Rona, Women’s Leader Bilkis Begum, Hasina Haider Chamili, Care District Manager Kamrun Naher and POPI-DCRM Technical Officer Kloudiay Nokrek Keya.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Morshed Chowdhury said, in Bangladesh half of the total population is women. It is possible to change the country’s overall scenario through ensuring gender equality in national development, which will help achieve the sustainable development goals.
CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito said, women must be given the same opportunities and rights so that they can play their role in society and contribute to the national economy in a big way.
Bangladesh Mohila Ssmity, Kishoreganj District Unit arranged a discussion meeting held at its office with Unit President Advocate Maya Bhowmik, in the chair.
It was addressed among others by Educationalist Abu Khaled Pathan, Formar Bar President Advocate Dolon Bhowmik, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito and Women Chamber Leader Bilkis Begum. A colourfull rally was brought out in the town led by D.C Md. Sarwar Morshed Chowdhury marking the Day.
Netrakona Correspondent says: International Women’s Day was observed here on Thursday with holding of different programmes.
Different socio-cultural and women organizations including Netrakona district administration and district women affairs directorate chalked out various programs to mark the day.
The programmes include bringing out colorful rallies, organizing of women development fair, holding of debate competitions, drama, discussion meetings and cultural functions.
In observence of the Day, a day long women development fair was held at Netrakona central Shaheed Minar premises here today under the auspices of Netrakona district administration and district women’s affairs directorate.
Deputy Commissioner Netrakona Dr Musfiqur Rahman formally inaugurated the fair and visited different colorful stalls at the fair ground.
A discussion meeting jointly sponsored by district administration and district women affairs directorate was held at the fair ground.
Deputy commissioner Netrakona Dr. Musfiqur Rahman addressed the meeting as chief guest while district women affairs officer Ferdousi Begum was in the chair. The meeting was addressed, among others, by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Mohammad Ariful Islam, prominent social worker and Executive Director of Sabolambi Unnayan Samity Begum Rokeya, former president of district Mohila Parishad Jobeda Kanam and professor Jotin Sarker.
The meeting was followed by a drama and musical soiree based on popular songs.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: The International Women’s Day-2018 was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country on Thursday with a vow to free the women folk from all sorts of violence, disparity and discrimination. This year’s theme of the day was ‘Time is Now: Rural and Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives’.
Marking the day, SKS Foundation, a local reputed volunteer organisation , chalked out the elaborate programmes.
The programmes included bringing out colorful rally, quiz, debate, essay and indigenous sports competitions and holding medical camp for pregnant women.
Apart from it, a discussion on the significance of the day was also held on the premises of Rahmatpur MM High School at Sadar upazila in the afternoon with union parishad chairman Rafiqul Islam in the chair.
Upazila health and family planning officer Dr ABM Abu Hanif attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest.
Dr ABM Abu Hanif said overall national development cannot be possible until the womenfolk are educated and all their fundamental rights are ensured at every sphere of the society.
The physician also called for ending violence against women by empowering them socially and educationally so that they could be mainstreamed into the national development.
About 450 students, teachers, NGO activists, public representatives, cultural personalities and local elite including journalists took part in the events .

Deputy Director (Local Government) Ruhul Amin Mian, District Women Affairs Officer Kawser Pervin, President of district unit of ‘Amrai Pari Zila Jyote’ Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu, among others, addressed.
The speakers laid special importance changing the social mindset to eradicate gender disparity for flourishing women leadership and ensuring equal rights of the women at all levels of the society.
Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu called for ending violence against women to ensure their equal emancipation in development, economy, politics, governance, every profession and sector for building a prosperous nation.
The chief guest narrated about various government steps taken for ensuring equal rights of the women to attain sustainable national uplift and make Independence meaningful for every citizen as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Marking the day, district administration and department of women affairs organized a human chain and street-corner meeting in Bilshimla area in the city.
Local unit Awami Leaders Shaheen Akhter, Prof Zinatunnessa Talukder and Morzina Parveen, Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdur Razzaque and District Women Affairs Officer Shobnom Shirin addressed the meeting.
Various development organisations including Bangladesh Mohila Parishad, Association for Community Development (ACD), Ladies Organization for Social Welfare and Action for Disability and Development observed the day.

Taking part in the discussion, the development activists unanimously said gender balance is the precondition to substantial and sustainable progress of the nation and it is very important for the development of the national economy.
They also emphasized the need for freeing society from gender discrimination to establish a non-discriminatory and equitable society for taking the nation forward successfully.
The development activists called for ending violence against women by empowering them socially and educationally so that they could be mainstreamed into the national development.
They mentioned that overall national development cannot be possible until the womenfolk are educated and all their fundamental rights are ensured.
They also called for acknowledging the domestic women workers as labourers so that they could ensure their legitimate rights.
