Call for building social movement against drugs

Speakers at a function underscored the need for waging a social movement and creating awareness among the people about the bad effects of narcotics to build a drug-free society.
Eradication of narcotics is not possible without a social movement, they said, addressing an anti-narcotics gathering organized by Gobindaganj Thana and Upazila Community Policing Forum at Eidga Maidan of the upazila in Gaibandha.
Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Ministry Abul Kalam Azad, MP, addressed the meeting as chief guest while Superintendent of Police M. Masrukur Rahman Khaled was in the chair.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) of Rangpur Range Khandkar Golam Faruk, Deputy Commissioner Goutam Chandra Pal and Mayor of Gobindaganj Municipality M. Ataur Rahman Sarker also addressed the meeting.
The chief guest said the young generation should be saved from the menace of the narcotics anyhow.
DIGP Khandkar Golam Faruk urged all the stakeholders of society to come forward and play their roles from their respective position in this regard.
Later, a total of 158 drug traders surrendered at the function and made commitments not to sell and take drugs any more from Thursday.
