UNB, Dhaka :
The Cabinet on Monday approved in principle the ‘Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan Bill, 2019’ to increase the number of its board members to 20 from 10.
The approval came at the Cabinet meeting held with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at her office in the city.
The bill was approved in the Cabinet to abolish the existing Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan Ordinance, 1983, said Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam while briefing reporters at the Bangladesh Secretariat after the Cabinet meeting.

“There’s no major change in the bill comparing to the existing ordinance,” he said.
The Cabinet Secretary said the bill was placed in the Cabinet translating the ordinance in Bangla as there is legal obligation to abolish the ordinance which had been promulgated during the military regime.
In the article 5 of the proposed law, it is mentioned to increase the number of BKSP board members to 20 from the existing 10, he said.
The Cabinet also urged the country’s people to pray for early recovery of ailing minister Obaidul Quader, Shafiul said.
He said the meeting discussed in brief the sickness of the minister and prayed for his early recovery.
Besides, the Cabinet adopted two condolence motions over the casualties in the recent Chawkbazar fire incident and death of Ekushey Padak winner Polan Sarker.
The Cabinet expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of 71 people in the Chawkbazar fire and prayed for salvation of the departed souls, said the Cabinet secretary.
It also expressed deep sympathy to 55 injured people and bereaved family members of those lost their lives in the fire incident that took place on February 20, he said.
The Prime Minister directly supervised the matters of handing over the bodies to their family members, providing compensation to the fire victims and ensuring treatment to the injured, he said, adding that the Cabinet prayed for early recovery of the injured people.
Shafiul Alam said the Cabinet expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of social activist Polan Sarker, who died on Friday at the age of 98.
Polan Sarker, who is widely known ‘Alor Ferrywala’ (distributor of light), used to distribute free books among people, passed away at his Bausha village home in Bagha upazila under Rajshahi district.
The Cabinet expressed sympathy to his bereaved family members, said the Cabinet Secretary.
