The Cabinet Division has sought Tk 300 crore more allocation from the finance ministry to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Of the amount, Tk 100 crore fund was sought as additional allotment in the revised budget for the current fiscal year (2019-20), while another chunk of Tk 200 crore fund was sought in the next fiscal year (2020-21) to accommodate the expenditure related to the birth centenary.
The government has already allocated Tk 100 crore fund for the same purpose in the current fiscal’s budget.
On January 28, the Cabinet Division in a letter to the Secretary of the Finance Division sought the funds citing requirements of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee.
Signed by Cabinet Division’s Deputy Secretary Md Rafiqul Islam, the letter also stated that the budget management committee of the Division in a meeting on January 19 decided to provide the funds to address the requirement of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee, led by former principal secretary to the Prime Minister Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury.
Celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary ( Mujib Borso) will begin from March 17,2020 to March 17, 2021of with due respect and festivity.
Earlier on January 10, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the countdown for the observance of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary at the National Parade Ground (old airport) in city’s Tejgaon area where Bangabandhu landed in the freshly liberated and sovereign Bangladesh on January 10, 1972.
The government has already chalked out an elaborate programme to celebrate the ‘Mujib Borso.’
