Cabinet directs energy division to explain fuel price hike

The Cabinet has directed the Energy and Mineral Resources Division to explain the reasons of the recent fuel price hike in the country.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the cabinet meeting on Thursday, issued the directive.
The prime minister joined the meeting virtually from her official residence, Ganabhaban.
The ministers were present at the meeting room of the Cabinet Division in the secretariat.
“The Cabinet had been informed about what the ministry concerned or the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) had disseminated the press in details about the recent hiking of the fuel prices in the country,” Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam, said in a press briefing after the meeting.
Replying to a query He said, “The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources was asked to explain elaborately again as it is a technical issue.”
The Cabinet Secretary, however, said that the BPC Chairman had already explained in details the matter in a press briefing.
Replying to another query, if the government would come back from its stance, Khandker Anwarul Islam said that the ministry or the BPC will make all things clear to the people.
On Friday, diesel price was increased by Tk34 to Tk114 per litre, octane price by Tk46 to Tk135 and petrol by Tk44 to Tk130 which created huge anger among the people.
The political parties started protested programme against the decision.
