The cabinet on Thursday approved 22 days as the public holidays for the next year.
Six holidays would be coincided with weekends (Fridays and Saturdays) from the 22 public vacation days.
The approval was taken at the virtual Cabinet meeting held in the secretariat. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting virtually from her Gonobhaban official residence. Other cabinet members joined it from the Secretariat.
As per the cabinet meeting decision, the holidays include 14 general holidays and eight more by the executive orders of the government.
Three days each among 14 general holidays and eight other public holidays would have coincided with weekends, said Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam while briefing to the media after the meeting.
The cabinet secretary said that the government employees can enjoy three optional holidays on the occasion of religious festivals.
Meanwhile, the employees from various small ethnic groups in Chattogram Hill Tracts and other places will have the scope to enjoy two optional holidays on the occasion of their major social festivals, the cabinet secretary said.
