Staff Reporter :Customs Intelligence Department seized 2.5 kilograms of gold bars and chains worth around Tk 1.25 crore from the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Wednesday. They also arrested a cabin crew from a Bangladesh Biman flight in this connection.The arrested man has been identified as Mazharul Afsar Russel, 38, who came to Dhaka from Dubai of UAE by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Customs Official said. Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department’s Assistant Commissioner (AC) Jewela Khanam said that a team ofCustoms Officials challenged Mazharul when he was crossing the green channel of the airport around 1:30pm and recovered the gold bars searching his body.Russel is being interrogated in connection with smuggling, the Customs Official said. A case has been filed against him with the Airport Police Station.
