People in general as consumers are being deprived of their rights and become sufferers and losers. The consumers are not interested to seek lawful assistance in case of such sufferings .
As a result , traders and public service bodies not ensuring transparency and accountability . On the other hand , long law procrastinations and complications, despite losers and harassed , people are not so interested to pursue the govt offices or court for protections. Most of the deprievers always say there is no remedies despite placing allegations.
But maxmum consumers know about the placing of allegations through mobile, facebook, internet, letters without engaging advocates and court fee under Consumers Rights Protect Act-2019 for realizing compensation of the losses if victimized. After probe of such allegations, the claimers will get 25 percent of the penalty amount . The seminar was also told that mass hearing of the consumers in the offices of central, divisional and district levels of National Consumers Protection Deptt are being held in every week and allegations are being received during filed level market drives of CAB and the such allegations are being settled in that mass hearing and field levels. Lack of knowledge about the Consumers Act , general people are not getting advantages from this epoch making law .
So to protect the Consumers Act , more awareness need to be developed among the common people . The seminar also discussed the matter of food adulteration and spurious drugs and demanded to amend the Act aimed at to include the food and drug adulteration chapter with exemplary punishment .
It is also essential to include the house rent, medicare service, financial transactions as protection of the human rights. The views were reiterated at the seminar on Consumer Rigjhts at Chattogram University auditorium on July 18 last. Chattogram University Law Department and the CAB, Chattogram chapter jointly organized the seminar duly presided by Dean of Law Faculty Prof. ABM Abu Noman .
