Sylhet Bureau :
Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started selling products through special cards in Sylhet from Sunday (March 20). On the occasion of the upcoming holy Ramadan, TCB is selling products in 18 places of 14 wards of the city corporation in Sylhet and 44 places in 13 upazilas of the district.
Through this special ‘Family Card’, 4 lakh 61 thousand 521 families of the entire department are getting the facility to buy TCB products in two steps. The district administration will take strict action if any irregularity is found in the sale of goods.
Buyers are likely to call everyone who looks appropriate, if there are only a few. However, for the last two days, the beneficiaries have complained of irregularities and nepotism against the salesmen who came to buy TCB products. Especially women complain more. This picture has been seen by turning around different points of selling products today and yesterday.
The sale of TCB products started at the designated place at 10 am from last two days in Sylhet. Standing in long lines, men and women cardholders bought TCB products at below market prices. Every buyer gets the opportunity to buy two liters of soybean oil at Rs 110 per liter, 2 kg of sugar at Rs 55 per kg and two kg of lentil pulses at Rs 75 per kg from TCB truck.
However, many buyers complain that salespeople and some local volunteers are breaking the line and giving the product to the people of their choice first. And the women had to stand for hours.
According to the local people’s representatives who supervise the sale of goods, the goods are being given to the card holders at the designated place every day from 10 am. Five hundred people will get TCB products every day. Care is being taken to ensure that people who come to buy goods are not harassed.
On the first day in Sylhet, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Mansurul Alam visited the TCB product sales activities in different places and Deputy Commissioner. Mujibur Rahman.
Sylhet Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) Mohammad Mubarak Hossain said 1,36,373 families have received family cards for TCB products in Sylhet district and city corporation areas. There are also enough products for sale in TCB’s warehouse.
He said that in these two steps, TCB products will not be given to anyone except the cardholders. Lentils and dates will be added to the three products distributed in the middle of Ramadan.
Responding to a question, he said action would be taken if any specific allegation of irregularities was found in the distribution.
In response to another question, the Additional Deputy Commissioner said that after purchasing the product in these two steps through this card, it has not been decided yet whether the card is usable or not.
