Busy Bhairab shoemakers make 3 lakh pair of shoes daily ahead of Eid

Due to Covid-19 pandemic losses in the last two years, the owners of footwear factories incurred huge loss. However, this time the owners want to compensate the loss as the situation is normal now ahead of Eid. With Eid-ul-Fitr looming, thousands of shoe artisans are busy in Bhairab’s footwear factories.
More than 22000 small and large shoe manufacturing factory have been set up at Bhairab Port town and 28 villages of Bhairab and Kuliarchar, many of them supplying number of popular brand.
Bhairab Bazar, a port town has developing as an industrial zone in the decades since the emergence in Bangladesh owing to its smooth rail road and waterways communication.
The journey of footwear industry started in 1989 in Bhairab of Kishoreganj, the largest footwear manufacturing area of the country
According to Bangladesh Footwear Factory Owners Association (BFFOA) said, at least 2.50 lakh shoemakers were currently working with the shoe manufacturing factories in Bhairab, Kuliarchar. Over seven seven lakh people in the district directly or indirectly involved in the sector.
The Footwear factory owners saids due to the Corona situation in the country, the import of leather goods, rexine, foam, heels, covers, pasting, yarn, buttons, solutions, etc. of the footwear industry has stopped in the last two years. Therefore, the prices of these products have doubled in the country’s market. As a result, the cost of making shoes is higher than before.
BFFOA President Md.Al-Amin said, the daily footwear trade in Bhairab and others areas is around tk.80 to 90 crore ahead of Eid.
Buyers from Dhaka, Chattogram Sylhet, Mymensingh, Cumilla, Chandpur and others parts of the country come to Bhairab Bazar regue.
