Businessmen of city commercial areas like Chawkbazar, Fallpatty, Katpatty and Girja Mahalla areas of the city started indefinite strike protesting eviction drive against encroaching footpath in city commercial areas on Monday noon.
The City businessmen alleged, police and city corporation staffs firstly has started hawker eviction drive in the city and than started eviction of our signboards.
Shanaj Parvin, Assistant Commissioner of BMP said police with the help of BCC staffs started the eviction drive as the those commercial areas were narrow in wide and even after that businessmen blocking the footpath created obstacles against public movement.
So to make free and smooth movement of the Eid shoppers they started operation after giving time and making announcement through micing .
Golam Rouf Khan, BMP deputy Commissioner, informed that during the eviction drive five hundred illegal hawker shops on footpaths and signboards creating obstacle on way of free public movement, were evicted. After that at least five hundred shops shut down protesting this drive from 1:00 PM Monday and continued till this report.
Mrinal Kanti Saha, vice president of Chawkbazar businessmen Assocission said police without serving any prior notice started the eviction drive and removed sign boards of the shops.
