Police early rescued a businessman, kidnapped from Chittagong College Road on April 20, from Maheshkhali jungle of Cox’s Bazar on Monday .
Abdus Shahid, hailing from Chittagong’s Ichhakhali, came to visit his daughter in Bakalia, said Mohamamd Atiqullah, sub-inspector of Chawk Bazar police, adding that he went out of the house to meet a female acquaintance, who called him over phone that evening.
As Shahid reached the place, some five people lifted him on a microbus, the SI said, adding, they demanded Tk 15 lakh from his family as ransom.
After investigating, police found that Shahid was taken to Maheshkhali, said SI Atiqullah.
The kidnappers fled the scene and drives to arrest them are underway, he added.
