Chitto Ranja Dam (83), a prominent businessman of Bagerhat district town and former Councilor of Bagerhat Pourashava met his tragic end when he fell into the river Pashur from a pontoon at Digraz (Mongla) naval base under Mongla Upazila in the district on at 9-30 pm on Wednesday .
At that time his son Tushar Dam jumped into the river to rescue his father, but in vain. The businessman was swept away by the strong current of the river. The divers of the navy searched the river, but no trace of him was found. In the following morning search was once again made in the river with the help of trawlers and boats to recover him. At last the dead body of the businessman was found floating near the coastguard ghat at Mongla, adjacent to Digraz naval base.
Lutfar Rahman, Officer-In-Charge of Mongla PS told the newsmen, the dead body of the businessman was recovered from the river and handed over the same to the relatives on the same day after completing some official formalities.
