Business community on Monday demanded the newly elected mayors of Dhaka South and North City Corporations to stop extortions by police and terrors.
They also urged the two city fathers to create business friendly environment in the city as well as across the country
The business leaders made the call at a reception programme thrown in honour of the two new mayors Md Annisul Huq and Md Sayeed Khokon’ at Diploma Engineers institution in the city.
Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) organised the reception with its President Kazi Akramuddin Ahmed in the chair.
Dhaka North Mayor Md Anisul Huq, Dhaka South Mayor Md Sayeed Khokon, Former First Vice-Presidents of FBCCI Mohammad Ali and Abu Alam Chowdhury, Vice-President of FBCCI Helal Uddin and Directors of FBCCI Abdul Haque, M A Momen and Selima Ahmed, among others spoke the occasion.
Stressing the necessity of immediate action against extortion, Director of FBCCI and Former President of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) Selima Ahmed claimed that police charges money to truck drivers when they are on duty into the city.
She demanded opening of 24 hours help desk for the business community to avoid undue harassment.
Directors of FBCCI M A Momen suggested for public private partnership (PPP) to ensure a peaceful city life.
The business leader also suggested a combined effort and technique to vanish traffic jam from the city.
Another Board of Director of FBCCI Abdul Haque demanded recovery of footpaths in city from hawkers for ensuring free movement on the streets.
Speaking on the occasion, both mayors Md Annisul Huq and Md Sayeed Khokon turning their attention for introducing 24 hours help desk. Apart from the business people, Dhaka South Mayor Md Sayeed Khokon assured of help desk will be created for all categories of people.
“I’m frankly telling you (businessmen) that Dhaka South City Corporation is facing a serious financial crisis. I think if you people come forward with paying your due tax on time, we will be able to overcome the present crisis,” he said.
