Business leaders hail PM for suspending new VAT law

Leaders of different business bodies, including the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), on Saturday appreciated the Prime Minister for suspending the new VAT law for two years and reducing the excise duty on bank accounts.
“We’re not against enforcement of law. But, we don’t want harassment,” FBCCI President
Md Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) told a joint press conference over the national budget for 2017-18 at FBCCI Bhaban in the city.
He said they want the revenue to be collected lawfully and the working committee concerned to resolve all the problems every month to prevent the misuse of law.
President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Md Siddiqur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) AKM Salim Osman were present at the post-budget conference arranged by the FBCCI.
Besides, leaders of other business bodies, including Bangladesh Chamber of Industry (BCI), Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) were present. Reading out the written speech, the FBCCI President thanked the Prime Minister for considering its proposals in the national budget by suspending the unified 15 percent VAT for two years and reducing the excise duty on bank accounts. He also thanked the Finance Minister, the Commerce Minister, the Industries Minister and MPs for considering the FBCCI proposals.
