District Bus and Truck Workers Union of Chuadanga went on an indefinite transport strike on Chuadanga-Meherpur highway on Wednesday protesting a court verdict that sentenced a bus driver for life term imprisonment.
The bus driver jailed in a case filed over the road crash that killed filmmaker Tareque Masud, journalist Mishuk Munier and three others.
Manikganj Additional District and Session’s Judge Al Mahmud Faijul Kabir pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict Md Jamir Hossain, the driver of Chuadanga Deluxe Poribhahan. District Bus and Truck Workers’ Union enforced the strike just after the announcement of the court verdict. “We enforced the strike at 2pm. We went on an indefinite transport strike protesting the court verdict,” Shahidul Islam,” joint Secretary General of Chuadanga District Bus and Truck Workers’ Union told The New Nation on Wednesday evening.
