Former Minister and President of Bangladesh Workers’ Party Rashed Khan Menon, MP’s car was hit by a bus named Balaka Paribahan at Mohakhali in the capital on Friday.
Eyewitnesses said, a passenger bus has crashed into the vehicle near a police box adjacent to the Mohakhali Bus Terminal in Dhaka on Friday morning.
Rashed Khan Menon told The New Nation on Friday evening that he was headed to the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport when the Balaka Paribahan bus suddenly picked up speed and hit his vehicle while trying to overtake it.
“A sergeant stopped the bus immediately.
The vehicle didn’t have any registration papers, while the driver also had no driving licence” said Menon, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Social Welfare Ministry. He was unhurt.
But there could have been serious consequences if the bus travelled any faster.”
“The traffic system in Dhaka is not satisfactory at all. It should be brought under strong discipline soon,” he said.
“I will tell it to the next Parliamentary session. This is very unfortunate for us,” Menon said. The bus was seized and its driver and conductor were held immediately.
The driver of Menon’s car, Sujon Mia filed a case with Banani Police Station in this regard against Amanullah, 38, driver of the bus and Dulal, 50, the conductor, he said.
This incident happened just days after a university student was killed at Bashundhara gate, what sparked outrage and mass protests for two days.
