A bus helper was burnt to death in an arson attack by miscreants on Gazipur-Kaliakoir road in Kaliakoir upazila early Thursday as the countywide non-stop blockade, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, entered the 10th day. The victim was identified as Tofazzal Hossain, 20, of Narayantala in Sunamganj district. Sources at police and fire service control rooms said the miscreants set fire to a bus while Tofazzal was asleep inside the bus at Mohishbatahan around 3:48am, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, a fire-fighting unit with the help of local people doused the blaze and recovered the charred body of Toffazel. It was later sent to sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia called the countrywide indefinite blockade from December 6 (Tuesday) as the government did not allow her party and allies to hold protest rallies in the capital. Amid their nonstop countrywide blockade programme, the daylong nationwide hartal, called by the same alliance protesting the gun attack on BNP chairperson’s adviser Reaz Rahman, is underway across the country today (Thursday). — Gazipur, Jan 15 (UNB)
