A bus helper was beaten to death by a man and his associates over previous enmity at Chiora bus stand in Chauddagram upazila on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Azharul Islam,28, hailing from Netrakona district.
Witnesses said Sabuj, a resident of Haldermura village of the upazila, had had an altercation with the helper, Azharul, in a Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Bishal Paribahan’ from Chittagong 15 days back.
As a sequel the enmity, Sabuj along with his men obstructed the bus on the highway by placing a power tiller at Chiora in the upazila at about 4:00 am.
Later, they dragged Azharul down from the bus and beat him mercilessly, leaving him critically injured.
Azharul was rushed to Feni Sadar Hospital from where he was shifted to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.
Later, he died on way to Dhaka at about 8:00 am.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Police also arrested three people in connection with the killing.
As Azharul’s death news spread, his fellow transport workers blocked the highway for half an hour.
