A bus driver was killed and at least 15 others sustained injuries when two passenger buses collided head-on at Choddyapaya area on Rajshahi-Dhaka highway under Matiher Police Station in the city Monday noon.
Siddiqur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Motiher Police Station, said the dead driver was identified as Rabiul Awal, 32.
Twelve of the injured persons were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where they were undergoing treatment till filing of this report at 4.1 5pm, he added.
Quoting locals, the police officer said a Hanif Paribahan bus was heading towards Rajshahi and when it reached Chodypaya area it collided head-on with a Bagha-bound bus owned by Afiya Paribahan around 12.45 noon.
The driver of the Bagha-bound bus died on the spot , he added.
Police and firefighters rescued the people and took them to hospital for treatment.
He also said reckless driving of both the buses might have caused the accident.
