Tarique-Mishuk killing: Bus driver jailed for life

A court here on Wednesday sentenced a bus driver to life term imprisonment in a case filed for killing noted filmmaker Tareque Masud and cinematographer Mishuk Munier in a road accident on Dhaka-Aricha highway in 2011.
Additional District and Session’s Judge Al Mahmud Faijul Kabir announced the verdict sentencing Jamir Hossain, 48, son of late Abdur Rahim Biswas of Daulatdiar village of Chuadanga district, in his crowded courtroom in the morning. The also fined him Tk 5,000 and to suffer three months more imprisonment in default to pay the fine. He was also awarded two years more imprisonment and fined Tk 2000, in default, to serve one month more imprisonment, for using his expired driving license during the incident.
On February 22, the same court fixed on Wednesday for delivering its verdict in the case filed over the deaths of five people, including Tareque and Mishuk, in the fatal road accident.
The court testified 24 witnesses in the case and pronounced the verdict. Tareque Masud, Mishuk Munier and three others were killed as a microbus, carrying them, collided with a bus, driven by the convict Jamir, on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Ghior upazila while returning to Dhaka from Manikganj on August 13, 2011.
