Driver Nuruzzaman Nuru reportedly confessed before a court here on Sunday to his involvement in the killing of nurse Shahinoor Akhter Tania after ‘gang-rape’ in his moving bus in Bajitpur upazila.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Al Mamun recoded the confessional statement of Nuruzzaman under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Meanwhile, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, deputy inspector general of police (Dhaka Range), visited the spot at Bilpar Gazaria in Bajitpur on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said those who were responsible for the nurse murder after rape will not be spared. “The killers of nurse Tania won’t be spared but those who are innocent will face no harassment,” he said while speaking at a press briefing at the police super’s office.
During interrogation, Nuruzzaman mentioned the presence of another man at the spot and police are trying to arrest him, he said.
The charge-sheet in the case will be submitted soon, the DIG said.
Physicians found the evidence of gang-rape after conducting autopsy on the body of the nurse on May 8.
Bus driver Nuruzzaman, his assistant Lalan Mia, Rafiqul Islam, Khokon Mia and Bakul Mia were put on an eight-day remand each.
Tania’s father filed the case with Bazitpur Police Station against five people.
As per the case statement, the victim boarded a bus of ‘Swarnalata Paribahan’ from Mohakhali bus stand on Monday on her way home.
When the bus reached Ujanpur in Katiadi, other passengers except Tania got down from the bus around 9:30pm.
Later, the driver and his helper violated the girl in the moving bus and strangled her with her scarf before throwing the body out of the vehicle at Gazaria near Bajitpur upazila.
Locals spotted the victim lying on the road and took her to Katiadi Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead around 10:45pm.
