Fatally injured housewife Kamala Nuri (20) of village Bakultala under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district who tried to commit suicide by burning herself in order to get rid of the inhuman oppression of her brute husband and mother-in-law at last succumbed to her injuries in Khulna Medical College Hospital on Friday noon after fighting with death for long 6 days.
Police and the family sources said , ill-fated Kamala Nuri, daughter of late Moktar Khalifa of village Purbo Rajapur under Sharankhola Upazila was given married to Elias Hawladar, son of one Motaleb Hawladar of village Bakutala under the same Upazila one and a half years ago.
She left behind a 3 months old son to mourn her death. Just after the marriage her husband and mother-in-law began to torture her inhumanly both physically and mentally.
On March 3 in order to get rid of the inhuman oppression she poured kerosene oil on her body and set fire for committing suicide. As a result, 60 per cent of her body was fatally burnt. She was at first admitted to Sharankhola Upazila Health Complex. After given first aid treatment she was shifted to burn unit of Khulna Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries after six days. Al-Amin Khalifa, brother of the deceased told, his sister suffered a lot after sustaining grievous burn injuries and died in the burn unit of Khulna Medical College Hospital. The dead body was released to her brother after postmortem examination was done in the morgue of the hospital.
In this connection maternal uncle of the deceased housewife registered a case with Sharankhola PS against 4 persons including husband and mother-in-law on Friday. Police of Shrankhola PS already arrested husband Elias Hawladar and his mother. The other accused persons are absconding.
